Natural Materials

Here at Darwen Bed Centre, we take our technology seriously.

That’s why we only use natural materials. Cotton, silks, wool, cashmere, all these fabrics help improve the quality of our sleep. They’re softer, springier and breathable — what’s not to love about that?

In fact, studies show that sleeping with woollen bedding helps achieve a 25% deeper sleep. Wool is also naturally antibacterial and anti-allergenic, so it’s an excellent choice for people with asthma.

Latex

Natural latex is another fantastic material we use. Derived from rubber tree sap; it’s grown and managed in sustainable plantations all over the world.
A rubber tree only produces 27ml of daily latex. So, it takes one tree over 500 days to create enough latex for a single mattress.
All the natural latex we use comes from sustainably managed plantations. So, if you’re an ethical consumer, rest assured, this is an eco-friendly option.
Natural Latex also boasts anti-allergenic, antibacterial and anti-microbial properties. It also showcases a unique way of supporting the body. It’s able to adapt to each individuals weight, shape and size. This helps ensure the best possible spinal alignment for each and every sleeper. These are just a few of the reasons why we use this fabric in our mattresses. Best of all, latex is breathable.
Its open-cell structure comprises of millions of interconnecting microscopic air bubbles. This doesn’t only make for an incredibly supportive mattress, but it also promotes healthy ventilation and maintains a comfortable sleeping temperature.

Advance Foam

With one of our advanced foam mattresses, soft comfort zones cushion your shoulders, hips and heels, while firmer zones keep your spine correctly aligned. It doesn’t matter which sleeping position you adopt; you’ll get the support you need.

Springs

These days, it’s unusual to find a mattress without interior springs.
There are three main kinds of modern spring units:

  • The open coil
  • The knitted spring
  • The pocket spring
Open Coil: Often called a ‘Bonell’ unit, these are individual springs joined with wire. On average there are between 288 and 325 springs in a 5’0 mattress.
Pocket Springs: This is the finest of the three spring systems. Each spring is housed in an individual fabric pocket. But, they manage to move independently of each other, which helps provide optimal spinal support. Spring counts vary between 800 and 5000, which should spread across two or more tiers, to provide greater comfort.

Hand-Side Stitching

All our matresses feature traditional hand-side stitching. This secures the outer springs to the borders at the top and bottom. This is the most labour intensive and highly skilled of all our operations. Side-stitching is carried out by senior upholsterers using traditional long needles and twine. Their work makes the borders and edges of our mattresses stronger. This prevents springs from distorting and extends the sleeping area right up to the sides of the bed.

Cooling Gel

Cooling gel, also known as 37.5 technology, continuously adjusts its temperature to maintain the optimum micro-climate, all night long.
The biggest and the best outdoor apparel brands harness this technology because they know it enhances the quality of their products. So, we’ve taken a leaf out of their book and applied this innovation to our bedding. This allows for a higher degree of breathability, moisture management, comfort, and micro-climate regulation.
Not to mention, 37.5 technology dries faster than other bedding. This drastically reduces the amount of energy needed to dry it. Plus, the cooling gel never washes out— instead, it refreshes every time you launder it.

Freeze Mattresses

A FREEZE mattress offers sleepers cool comfort.
How?
By providing the ideal micro-climate environment.
This empowers users to enjoy an improved quality of sleep time and again. This tech is also washable; it doesn’t matter how many times you launder it; it’ll still keep its coolness.
